Discovering Our Community

To give you a picture of the Sisters of Saint Joseph, we have to tell you about our 139-year history at the service of young people and of society. Founded in Saint Hyacinthe, in 1877, for the rural schools of the diocese, the Congregation soon saw its influence extending beyond this region. First of all, the sisters went to the Canadian West (1901), then to New England (1926) and eventually, they were called to work in foreign missions: Lesotho (1938), Brazil (1958), Haiti (1990), and Chad (1994).
