Our mission

" Children are begging for food that no one will give them. " (Lm 4,4)

A Gospel-based mission
Elisabeth Bergeron was challenged by the daring demand of her bishop, Mgr. Louis Zéphirin Moreau, to provide teachers for the neglected youth of his time. She will answer with as much daring by the founding of the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Saint Hyacinthe.

In the Gospel, Jesus clearly shows his preference, his will:
'Whatever you do to the least of my brethren, you do unto me.”  (Mt 25,40)

It is also Elisabeth’s choice.

Like Joseph
Seeing the example of Joseph, an unaffected and honest man chosen by God as father and teacher of the Child Jesus, she and her companions dedicate their vital energy to the integral education of youth. They live among the people and cater to their needs.

Since the beginning, we wish to reveal to the world, especially to the humble and lowly, the face of our God who is close to each human being.

Today
Everywhere, whether personally or in groups, we Sisters of Saint Joseph and our associates recommit ourselves:

  • to be a question and a spiritual answer to the search for the sacred and the meeting of God in the society of the 3rd millennium.
  • to resume with new determination our mission of educating and evangelizing the human person, granting special attention to the voiceless, victims of social injustice: children, youth, and women, in order that they may regain their dignity within the family and within society.
