The Shepherds’ School to Lesotho (Part I)

The Shepherds’ School to Lesotho (Part I) The Shepherds’ School began in 1992, thanks to Sister Josephina Matobako (+2002), sister of Saint Joseph of St-Hyacinthe and Sister Marguerite Aussant, who oversaw the construction of the school.

After all these years, the school is still pursuing its mission and continues to grow. Several sisters from St. Joseph are involved in teaching Catechism in collaboration with associated people from Charism, so much so that in July (2022) several shepherds were baptized, and others received First Communion.

Each time that shepherds are gathered for classes, we invite other people to join them. We teach the basics for hygiene, the importance of observing the rules of the country, respecting and welcoming tourists. We propose to start teaching reading and writing soon. Sister Elizabeth Lerotholi, one of the members of the SJSH Committee, oversees this project and is responsible for organizing the various activities.

Father Charles Matsoso, O.M.I., also contributes to the evolution of this project through Radio-Maria, a Catholic radio station in the country which broadcasts the activities experienced with the shepherds.

For instance, in November 2022, he celebrated with them the feast of Christmas, and he offered them practical gifts (boots, socks, etc.) which were given by the people in the area.

We would like to thank everyone involved in this project who is committed to giving their time to those in need.
