GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION

Manaus is the capital of the state of Amazonas, in north-western Brazil. It is also the largest city in Amazonia. The city was founded by the Portuguese in 1669 on the banks of the Rio Negro, near its confluence with the Amazon. It had a population of 2.064 million (2022). Manaus, with its industrial park, is the largest metropolis in Brazil's Northern Region. The municipality covers 11,401 square kilometers.
