Saint Joseph…a Happy Man!

I do not think of you as being sad or bored, nor annoying. On the contrary, I see you happy with Jesus and Mary. Yes, I see you smiling while you help Mary to wash her dishes, pots, and pans. I see you teasing Jesus who is busy playing with the wooden toy donkey so skilfully fabricated by you.

I feel that you are happy to provide to their needs with love by your carpentry work. Sometimes, I imagine that the three of you are at table and I wonder what subject of conversation is yours. Surely not banal, but certainly rich in profound mutual sharing!

Your holiness, Joseph, consisted only in doing extraordinarily well very ordinary things. Teach me, Joseph, to be happy doing well the most simple and fraternal actions in my daily life. Only that, but all that!
