Longueuil (Milice Street)

1989-2001

GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION
The Sieur de Roberval neighbourhood is situated between Chambly Road, Roland Therrien Boulevard, and Desormeaux Boulevard, in St. Hubert. The church is over three kilometres away and there is no school in the area.

FOUNDING
The parish of Sacré Coeur de Jesus [Sacred Heart] is considered one of the biggest and poorest in the diocese of St. Jean. It is divided into three sections, each of which has its place of worship. The Sieur de Roberval neighbourhood, where the sisters live, holds its Sunday celebrations in the Trait d'Union Community Centre.

FOUNDERS
Sister Noëlla Viau
Sister Rolande Éthier
Sister Jacqueline Francoeur

MISSION
The sisters organized a grassroots educational program at the Carrefour Mousseau in order to improve the social and material conditions of the Des Ormeaux population. Group kitchens met some of the needs. As young mothers were participating, a child day-care service was added. A dozen Sisters of Saint Joseph worked at the Carrefour Mousseau at different times from 1990 to 2000. In 1999, a lay person took over the administration of this project.

DEPARTURE
The sisters left this area in 2001.
